Women constitute a significant 45% of the workforce, a clear indication of the company’s commitment to gender diversity. HSBC GSC Sri Lanka has taken bold steps to support its female employees through significant life events. The maternity policy has been extended from 84 days to 200 days of paid maternity leave, allowing new mothers ample time to bond with their newborns without the stress of an impending return to work. In addition, the company offers the option for new mothers to work from home for one year post-delivery, coupled with an additional allowance for the newborn. This progressive approach not only supports the physical and emotional well-being of the mother but also ensures that she can maintain her professional growth during this critical period. This flexibility also helps mothers balance their career ambitions with the demands of early parenthood.


Recognising the needs of mothers, HSBC GSC Sri Lanka has incorporated mother’s rooms in its office design. These rooms provide a private and comfortable space for new and expectant mothers, reflecting the company’s understanding and support for work-life balance.

To further assist mothers returning to work, HSBC GSC Sri Lanka provides an additional allowance for each child, easing the financial burden and acknowledging the dual role these women play as professionals and caregivers.

The availability of menstrual pads at no cost addresses a basic hygiene need, often overlooked in the workplace, further emphasising the company’s attention to the comfort and dignity of its female employees.


In a groundbreaking initiative, HSBC GSC Sri Lanka has introduced a program focused on menopause awareness. This program aims to break the taboo surrounding menopause and provide support and understanding for women undergoing this natural transition, ensuring they have access to the necessary resources and understanding from their colleagues and managers. HSBC GSC Sri Lanka’s dedication to empowering women extends beyond immediate workplace policies to long-term career development initiatives. Supplementing to this there are multiple e-learning programs that offer courses designed to groom women for leadership roles and other advanced positions within the company. The company has rolled out the Employee Assistance Program, which focuses on mental wellbeing of all staff with specialised attention for women employees where required, considering the multiple roles they play while managing their responsibilities at work.


One of the flagship programs at HSBC GSC Sri Lanka is “Headway,” which focuses on sustaining and expanding the female leadership pipeline. Through Headway, women employees are paired with senior leaders who provide mentorship and guidance, helping them navigate the complexities of their careers. This program not only enhances the skills and knowledge of women employees but also builds a strong network of support that is crucial for career
