NDB has created a vibrantSatynmag.com CIMA SL Women friendly Workplace Awards 202 image as a women friendly workplace, with women in ranks across the bank’s multiple areas of operations; NDB truly blazes a trial when it comes to empowering the women on its team. In line with NDB’s commitment for gender equality, NDB became the first local company to obtain the only global certification standard available for gender diversity at workplace – EDGE certification. The Certification demonstrates their commitment to promote gender balance at all levels. Lilanthi Delgoda, Chief Manager Human resources stated that the NDB Bank is consistently committed to empowering the women in their team, enabling them to utilise opportunities for growth.
As participants in the 1, NDB is proud to showcase some of the talented women on their team.
Andrea Ruwanpura – Junior Executive – IT
Andrea, a busy mother of two, currently working as the secretary for the vice president of IT has been with the NDB team since 2011.She is also a Dress Designer which enhances her portfolio of talents. Andrea has built a business in batik designing – known as Fute (meaning smart), she believes that her business is an ideal avenue for her to enhance her growth and skill.
“As a career woman and a busy mother it is not an easy task to balance work and personal life.” she says. “Designing and creating custom made clothes and batik is a passion for me which I love doing.”
She says that she discovered her talent during the lockdown – and has never looked back. ” The lockdown paved the way for us to dig deep into ourselves and find hidden talents; it helped me discover how much I could extend my skills into new areas of businesses.”
Anushi Vithanage – Chief Manager – Legal
Anushi is a lawyer who joined the NDB team as a Management Trainee in 1995.
Spanning a career of 25 years, she has served NDB as a Legal Officer, Senior Legal Officer, Deputy Manager Legal, Manager Legal, and Senior Manager Legal – today, she is the Bank’s Chief Manager Legal. During her career, she has been able to acquire a sound understanding of the Bank’s various areas of work – from Corporate Banking, Leasing, SME, Housing Finance and Project Finance to large scale banking needs. “The support I got from NDB has been amazing”, she says. “As the Team Leader of the Legal Team for Project Finance, I handle and guide junior lawyers in handling special projects like infrastructure projects, construction projects including condominiums, in areas such as securitizations, project structuring and advising local and overseas lending. Mostly such facilities are structured by way of loan syndications with other banks in the market followed by concurrent securities local and overseas.”
With NDB expanding to borrowers in countries like, Uganda, Maldives, Indonesia and Cambodia, Anushi says that she gained insights and exposure, working in global markets.
When she commenced her post graduate studies, she was given tremendous support by the bank – with a busy career, kids and a family to take care of, Anushi says that she was able to balance it all with the support she was given.
Lakshika Malwenna – Branch Manager of Ambalangoda
Lakshika joined NDB in 2005 and today holds a key position in the bank as the Manager of the Ambalangoda branch.
She believes that the pathway towards growth at NDB is open to all women – and that recognition and career expansion are made possible by the NDB’s senior management.
According to Lakshika, having been feted with a global recognition for empowering women in banking through the EDGE certification for gender equality, NDB Bank’s focus on enabling ladies in their team to get ahead in their careers.
She says that while balancing the work and home front is a challenging task for all women, the tremendous support given by the Bank is vital for women to be able to get ahead in their careers.
Ravini Suraweera – Branch Manager of Pelawatte
Ravini started her banking career in 1992 – having worked her way through banking in both local and global settings, she came on the NDB team in 2001.
Having got married and raised a family of two children during her banking career, she has worked in several areas of finance and related disciplines at the bank. She has been an Asst. Branch Manager and today, heads the Pelawatte Branch as Branch Manager.
“Working long hours is challenging especially when you have to leave children with caregivers. As a single parent, I manage everything with the help and support of my family and of course the Bank.”
A determined career woman with a win-win mind-set, she managed to execute a record breaking branch opening as she calls it, with the support of her friends and family. When the branch started to perform well under her guidance, she says she was recognised by the Bank for her efforts. In return, she was able to pass on the encouragement to her team as well.
