Poornima and Janith Jayawardena were inspired to start Sri Lanka’s first kid-friendly subscription box KIDSActive Kit in 2018. It was their toddler Freya who got them on the road to entrepreneurship ; they were searching for products that would enable their little girl to learn and have fun as she played.
Their business today has grown with several tiers of subscriptions – they are also ready to launch their own Android Mobile App.
“KIDSActive kit is a monthly subscription box which contains activities and crafts for preschoolers. These activities and crafts provide a fun environment for the children to learn and support their early developmental areas. With new activities being introduced every month, parents can keep their young ones entertained all throughout the subscription plan. Plus, we include all materials required for each craft or activity.” says Poornima.
This young couple is credited with starting their own business without raising capital – their initial investment was their savings. ” There were no profits during the first 6 months – we put everything back into the business. But as we built the business and as parents and children began to tell us how much they loved our product, we realized that the potential was just beginning.”
